Elevated Expectations, Elevated Care: Improving the Standard of Care for Patients with Psoriasis

Dr. Chesahna Kindred, a board‑certified dermatologist, introduces two patients with psoriasis and psoriatic arthritis to share their stories and discuss how to improve management.

Diane Talbert, a patient advocate for psoriasis and psoriatic arthritis, overviews the challenges she has faced during her decades-long disease. She highlights how difficult it can be for patients to find the right dermatologist and the importance of patients advocating for their condition. Furthermore, Diane talks about how having skin of color has impacted her diagnosis and treatment of psoriasis.

Iyanu Bishop, a college student with a family history of psoriasis and psoriatic arthritis, shares her treatment journey and emotional struggles. She tolerated pain and the appearance of her skin for years because she thought it was a familial condition, so had not been adequately treated until she met Dr. Kindred.

Dr. Chesahna Kindred emphasizes the importance of accessing appropriate medical care at the right time to help achieve clear skin. Thanks to the excellent research advancements in recent years, outcomes for psoriasis and psoriatic arthritis have improved. Dr. Kindred is confident that the outlook of patients with psoriasis and psoriatic arthritis will continue to improve with the development of precision therapeutics.
